Belarus to cooperate with Sudan, Egypt in extraction of natural resources

MINSK, 2 May (BelTA) – Belarus intends to cooperate with Sudan and Egypt in the extraction of natural resources, BelTA learned from the website of the Belarusian Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Ministry.

A Belarusian delegation led by Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Minister Andrei Kovkhuto is in Sudan and Egypt on 29 April – 5 May. Members of the delegation are expected to meet with top-ranking government officials of Sudan (the prime minister, the first vice president and ministers of mineral resources, environment, natural resources and urban development, oil and gas, water resources, irrigation and electrification, higher education and scientific research) and Egypt (ministers of water resources and irrigation, oil and mineral resources, defense industry, environment, utilities and urban development).

There are plans to discuss a broad range of matters concerning the advancement of bilateral cooperation with Sudan and Egypt, in particular, the participation of Belarusian organizations and companies in projects to find, survey, and extract oil deposits in Sudan and drill artesian wells in Egypt. The sides will also discuss the implementation of projects relating to sewage water treatment, water supply, solid municipal waste recycling, and possible implementation of projects to develop a system for the aerospace monitoring of geological processes, the soil structure, the location of natural resources, and the renewal of digital topographic maps of the country in Sudan.
