MOGILEV, 21 June (BelTA) – The second phase of the financial and technical assistance project of the Chinese government in the Republic of Belarus was official launched in Mogilev. The ceremony took place in the Kazimirovka residential district of Mogilev where the construction of a 100-apartment house got underway, BelTA has learned.
The project to build social housing using the financial and technical assistance of the Chinese government is implemented as part of the agreements reached between the heads of state of Belarus and China. During the first phase in 2016-2017, sixteen houses were built in Belarus. Over 1,400 families moved into new apartments. This year, the second phase provides for the construction of 22 houses, including three in Mogilev Oblast. Over 1,800 Belarusian families entitled to social housing and in need of better housing will receive new apartments. The Chinese side undertakes all construction expenses while and the project management company carries out external control and funding management.
“The experience of working with the Chinese counterparts in the construction of social housing has laid additional foundations for deepening the comprehensive strategic partnership between Belarus and China,” said Yekaterina Usenkova, the head of the housing construction department of the housing policy office at the Architecture and Construction Ministry. She expressed gratitude to the Chinese partners for joint work and successful implementation of the project.
For his part, First Secretary of the Adviser for Trade and Economic Affairs at the Chinese Embassy in Belarus Chen Youjin said that thanks to the joint efforts the parties have implemented a number of important projects using the financial and technical assistance of the government of the People's Republic of China. These include the construction of social housing (first phase), the therapeutic unit of the Minsk Central District Hospital, an electrification system of the Great Stone industrial park and others. “This gave a new impetus to the development of cooperation and economic relations between the Republic of Belarus and China, has contributed to the strengthening of friendship between our two peoples. We have a huge potential for the development of bilateral relations. The projects that we plan to implement in the near future are evidence of this. Such dynamic development of cooperation symbolizes our strategic partnership. I hope that in the future we will will continue to enjoy understanding and support in the implementation of various initiatives which will help to qualitatively fulfill the tasks entrusted to us by the heads of state of Belarus and China,” Chen Youjin said.
The second phase of the project provides for the construction of two apartment houses for 100 and 120 apartments in Mogilev and one 60-apartment house in Krichev. During the first phase of the project in Mogilev Oblast social houses were built in Mogilev, Bobruisk and Osipovichi for more than 300 families.
