MINSK, 1 November (BelTA) – The Belarusian State University (BSU) will display about 30 scientific and technological developments at the international multidisciplinary exhibition MUSIAD EXPO, which is set to take place in Istanbul, Turkiye on 2-5 November 2022, the BSU press service told BelTA.

The exposition of BSU will display achievements of its scientists and researchers in mechanical and instrument-making, chemistry and medicine, food industry and biotechnologies. They include anti-tumor drugs and medical equipment, food additives, veterinary and biological preparations for protection and stimulation of plant growth, new materials, technologies for obtaining functional coatings, aerospace and information technologies, instrument engineering, etc.

Visitors will be able to see a sample of multifunctional smart windows. These are liquid crystal panels that change from transparent to opaque and vice versa depending on external factors. The smart windows can be used as an alternative to ordinary glass windows. The innovative development protects the room from sunlight, infiltration of ultraviolet radiation and partially blocks infrared radiation.

Developments also include the anti-tumor drugs Cisplacel, Prospidelong, and Temodex. The first drug is used to remove tumors in the head and neck area. Prospidelong and Temodex have a hydrogel substance and are used for local chemotherapy of gastric and brain tumors, respectively.

The BSU exposition will include edible films and coatings based on polysaccharides and plant antimicrobial and antioxidant additives. They are the only type of biodegradable polymeric packaging that does not require sorting and special disposal conditions, preserving the taste, aroma, aesthetic appearance and sterility of products. The new type of wrapping is non-toxic, fully biodegradable in humans and animals, and can reduce the use of plastic many times over.

Innovations of the leading Belarusian university will be presented in the collective section of scientific developments of the Education Ministry of Belarus.
