MINSK, 28 May (BelTA) – Belarus and Tajikistan would like to set up joint ventures. The matter was discussed at the meeting of Vice Chairman of the House of Representatives of Belarus Boleslav Pirshtuk with a parliamentary delegation of Tajikistan, BelTA has learned.
Boleslav Pirshtuk suggested considering a possibility to set up joint facilities to assemble machinery, including farm machines. The idea was upheld by Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Science, Education, Culture and Youth Policy of the Lower House of the Parliament of Tajikistan Nurullo Okilzoda. He also leads the Tajikistan-Belarus Parliamentary Friendship Group. He expressed confidence that the two countries need to scale up work to establish joint ventures. He noted that Tajikistan already assembles Belarusian tractors and furniture.
In 2018, Belarus-Tajikistan trade approximated $40 million. “This is not much for the countries with such a potential,” Boleslav Pirshtuk said. In his view, the MPs should work hard to rectify the situation. He believes that a more vibrant economic cooperation will help strengthen humanitarian contacts.
The parties emphasized great opportunities to expand bilateral cooperation in many areas. The leaders of Belarus and Tajikistan create a solid foundation for bilateral contacts. “Belarus is a strategic partner for Tajikistan. Our cooperation is expanding year after year,” Nurullo Okilzoda noted.
The parties discussed educational partnerships and interregional contacts. The MPs welcomed a high level of cooperation in such organizations as OSCE PA, CSTO PA, and CIS IPA and promised each other further support.
