Belarus, Syria mull over joint plant to assemble MAZ vehicles

MINSK, 9 September (BelTA) – Belarus and Syria are mulling over a joint plant to assemble MAZ equipment. The issue was discussed at a meeting between Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Syria Alexander Ponomarev and Syrian Minister of Industry, co-chair of the joint Belarusian-Syrian commission on trade, economic and technical cooperation Kamal Eddin Touma and head of Syria’s Planning and International Cooperation Commission Khuder Qais, BelTA learnt from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Partaking in the meeting were representatives of the Minsk Automobile Plant (MAZ trademark). “The parties discussed the issues related to the provision of export loans for the supplies of MAZ vehicles to Syria. The parties confirmed interest in further joint work to renew the delivery of Belarusian vehicles to the Syrian market and set up an assembly plant in future,” the press service said.

The sides also exchanged views on the implementation of specific agreements reached during the meeting of the Belarusian-Syrian intergovernmental commission on trade, economic and technical cooperation in April 2015.
