MINSK, 27 January (BelTA) – Belarus and Syria are interested in cooperation in civil engineering. The possibilities were discussed as Belarusian Deputy Architecture and Construction Minister Oleg Shvets met with Syrian Public Works and Housing Construction Minister Suhail Abed al-Latif, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Architecture and Construction Ministry website.

The sides discussed promising avenues of cooperation in civil engineering. Close attention was paid to the experience of Belarusian specialists in building quality and comfortable homes. Oleg Shvets said: “Last year we also met with representatives of Syria and discussed the participation of Belarusian construction workers in restoration efforts in Syria, including the construction of housing and industrial facilities. One can say with confidence today that the two countries have a preliminary vision of interaction. Our main task is to take care of all the minor things that may emerge in the course of realization of the agreements that will be translated into practice.”

Oleg Shvets noted that the Belarusian civil engineering industry has a great potential. It includes enterprises that offer the entire range of construction services starting with designing and production of construction materials and ending with turn-key construction of modern and quality properties.

Syrian Public Works and Housing Construction Minister Suhail Abed al-Latif noted that Belarus is a friendly country for Syria. Belarus’ civil engineering experience can be used in Syria. “Within the framework of our visit to Belarus we will go to various industrial facilities and housing complexes. I am convinced that as a result of the working trip we will talk even more specifically about avenues of cooperation,” Suhail Abed al-Latif said.

Apart from that, the sides took a look at and fleshed out a number of matters and discussed a draft memorandum of cooperation. In their opinion, the memorandum should become a reliable foundation for further successful work. Representatives of the diplomatic missions of Belarus and Syria and heads of Belarusian construction companies also took part in the negotiations.
