MINSK, 16 February (BelTA) – Belarus has shipped the first batch of dairy products to Syria, Aleksei Bogdanov, the head of the main department for foreign economic affairs at the Agriculture and Food Ministry, said on the sidelines of the 1st International Forum Agrarian Belarus on 16 February, BelTA has learned.
Ten containers with powdered milk and butter were shipped to Syria in January. “As for Syria, this country has a huge interest in the delivery, it wants to work with Belarus. The products were shipped in January, Syria will get them soon,” Aleksei Bogdanov said. The deliveries to Syria are profitable for Belarusian enterprises.
To expand cooperation with the Middle Eastern region, in particular, with Syria and Lebanon, plans have been made to hold a presentation of the potential of Belarusian meat and dairy factories on these markets.
In 2016, Belarus’ food export reached $4.155 billion. Organizations of the Agriculture and Food Ministry exported $2.271 billion worth of food (up 1.6% from 2015). Horticultural export made up $380 million.
