Belarus seeks closer ties with regions of Tajikistan, Afghanistan

DUSHANBE, 23 March (BelTA - Khovar) – Belarus is eager to strengthen ties with regions of Tajikistan and Afghanistan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Tajikistan and concurrently to the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Oleg Ivanov said as he met with Chairman of the Tajikistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry Sharif Said, BelTA has learned.

“Belarus is eager to intensify interregional ties not only with Tajikistan, but also with Afghanistan. We would like to help this country revive its economy,” Oleg Ivanov said.

The press service of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Tajikistan said that the parties stressed the importance of bolstering the contacts between Belarusian and Tajik businessmen. They also discussed opportunities for setting up joint ventures to produce and process ginned cotton, fruit and vegetables, assemble tractors and refrigerators, and repair diesel-powered vehicles.

The Belarusian diplomat briefed Sharif Said about the efforts made to implement a number of economic projects in Tajikistan, including to establish a joint enterprise for repairing Belarusian BelAZ and MAZ vehicles and a center for training Tajik entrepreneurs, students and industrial workers. “The project will be implemented with the help of the EurAsEC bank. Belarus has experience in the implementation of such projects,” Oleg Ivanov said.
