Belarus, Russia to set up joint business council

MINSK, 30 June (BelTA) - Belarus and Russia will set up a joint business council, Chairman of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Vladimir Ulakhovich told the media on the sidelines of a web-based meeting of the Business Cooperation Council held as part of the 8th  Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia, BelTA has learned.

"Today we will sign an agreement to set up a joint Belarusian-Russian business council. It will include our major enterprises from different sectors of the economy. This council will participate in the work of the High-Level Group of the Council of Ministers of the Union State, representing the voice of business," Vladimir Ulakhovich said.

According to him, a number of commercial contracts worth more than $70 million in petrochemicals and industry will also be signed during the meeting of the Business Cooperation Council.

"Today's meeting of Belarusian and Russian business is very important for a variety of reasons. The pandemic has affected our interaction, but the business is interested in specific projects, effective work despite all the restrictions. In addition, we see ample opportunities for cooperation at the regional level. More than 80 business representatives from different regions are attending the meeting on behalf of Russia," Vladimir Ulakhovich said.

The meeting of the Business Cooperation Council within the framework of the 8th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia has been organized by the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation in cooperation with the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus and the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation. The participants in the meeting are set to discuss the development of inter-chamber cooperation mechanisms, the current state and prospects for further development of cooperation at the regional level, successful joint projects, equal market access for Russian and Belarusian trade and industrial entities and other systemic issues arising from mutual trade and export of products to third countries.
