MINSK, 7 December (BelTA) – Belarus and Russia will continue consultations to work out a coherent approach to the development of the energy systems, BelTA learned from the Belarusian national electrical company Belenergo.
“Belarus’ Energy Ministry hosted a meeting between Deputy State Secretary of the Belarus-Russia Union State Alexei Kubrin and representatives of the Energy Ministry and Belenergo. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the cooperation in energy matters. The participants agreed to hold further consultations on the coherent approach to the development of the energy systems in Russia and Belarus,” Belenergo said.
Belarus’ Deputy Energy Minister Leonid Shenets spoke about a range of issues that the Russian and Belarusian energy industries face with the development of the common electricity market of the Eurasian Economic Union and also in the course of implementation of the national electricity industry programs in each country.
Alexei Kubrin noted that the energy systems of Russia and Belarus have significant differences. The common energy market will be operating successfully only if there is a real competitive environment. The interests of all market players, most importantly energy consumers, must be met in each country, he stressed.
During the meeting, Belenergo Director General Yevgeny Voronov emphasized that the technologically-advanced CHP plants account for a significant share of the electricity generation in Belarus. This fact will be kept in mind when choosing the operation mode for Belarus’ energy system after the commissioning of the Belarusian nuclear power plant which is currently under construction.
Attending the meeting were Belenergo Director General Yevgeny Voronov and First Deputy Director General, Chief Engineer Sergei Mashkovich. Georgy Kutovoi, Academician of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, and Alla Zhuravleva, member of the Scientific Council under the Federation Council, attended the meeting on Russia’s behalf.
