MINSK, 8 April (BelTA) - Belarus is ready to take an active part in the Chinese Silk Road project, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei stated on 8 April, BelTA has learned.
"We support the initiative of the Chinese side to build the Silk Road economic belt. Belarus is ready to actively participate in the work and fulfill the project with concrete content in the form of transport, logistics and infrastructure projects. We view the Belarus-China Industrial Park Great Stone as the most important component of the Silk Road economic belt on the border of the EEU-EU,” Vladimir Makei said.
The Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs noted that at today's meeting with the Chinese counterpart the arrangements were made to pay more attention to trade and economic cooperation. In the past two years the two countries have reached more than $4 billion in the bilateral trade. The Belarusian export amounted to more than $1 billion. "But we are aware that this is not the limit. This is only the starting point," said Vladimir Makei.
According to him, in the future the focus will be made on increasing investment in joint manufacturing projects, especially in high-tech sectors.
He stressed that the Belarusian side intends to actively promote these and other initiatives ahead of the visit of China's President Xi Jinping to Belarus. "We expect that the current and upcoming bilateral contacts will help ensure that the comprehensive strategic partnership with China will reach new frontiers in the near future," Vladimir Makei said.
