MINSK, 19 January (BelTA) – Belarus is ready to make electric cars using only components made in the country. Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Vladimir Gusakov made the statement as he commented on the draft program on the development of electric transportation in the 2021-2025 period that the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus is considering, BelTA has learned.
The official said: “If investments are available, we are ready to use our own R&D products to create a purely Belarusian electric car.”
In his words, several battery models are being considered for the Belarusian electric car: lithium-ion batteries, graphene-lead batteries, and graphene batteries. “Li-ion batteries are very expensive. A battery costs half of an electric car. Apart from that, prices for lithium will only rise because the reserves are limited and primarily concentrated in China and some other countries,” Vladimir Gusakov said.
This is why many countries are looking for new solutions for electric cars and Belarusian scientists are, too. They will test their batteries in January.
