MINSK, 10 January (BelTA) – Belarus has ratified the agreement on granting the international status to Losha-Shumskas border checkpoint. The corresponding Belarusian-Lithuanian inter-governmental agreement was officially published at the National Legal Internet Portal on 10 January.
Losha-Shumskas is situated 20-30km away from the Kamenny Log border checkpoint, which is known for its frequent queues. It is expected that Losha-Shumskas will help lessen the load of the nearby border crossing.
The State Border Committee carried out an experiment on the appropriateness of changing the status of the border checkpoint. The results showed a big demand for the international border checkpoint Losha among citizens of Belarus and Lithuania.
