Belarus, Qatar discuss new investment projects

DOHA, 29 October (BelTA) – Belarus and Qatar discuss the implementation of new investment projects, Belarus’ Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates with concurrent accreditation to the State of Qatar Roman Golovchenko told reporters, BelTA informs.

The Belarusian side hopes to raise the inflow of Qatar investments. “This is a priority for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and corresponding Belarusian organizations. We are now working hard to specify the financial and economic details of the investment portfolio for at least three projects,” the Ambassador said.

He remarked that the countries managed to reach a rather high level of cooperation, including in the economy, trade, credit, finance, and investment. “Qatar is one of the largest investors in the Belarusian economy among the Arab states of the Middle East. To a large extent it is so because Qatar believed that Belarus has good investment prospects and has a rather positive view of the further cooperation,” the diplomat said.

As an example he cited the hospitality business project implemented in Minsk. “This is just the beginning. The agenda includes many investment projects. These are investments in various sectors, such as the real production sector, entertainment, tourism, and healthcare,” Roman Golovchenko said.

Speaking about the development of trade relations, the Ambassador stressed that the market of Qatar is not very large because the country is small. “However, we can be proud of the fact that Belarusian foodstuffs are sold in Qatar. Belarusian construction materials are used in Qatar to decorate the most luxurious buildings. These are ceramic tiles and other decoration materials such as hardwood and timber. This is the result of hard work aimed at promoting Belarus’ export. This market is rather narrow and it is not easy to compete with certain world leaders here,” the diplomat added.
