MINSK, 19 March (BelTA) – It is necessary to start making respirators in the country. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko gave the relevant instructions during the government conference held on 19 March to discuss the epidemiological situation in the country, BelTA has learned.
The head of state noted that the country has sufficient amounts of protective suits, masks, and disinfectants. However, no respirators are made in Belarus.
Healthcare Minister Vladimir Karanik brought a respirator to the conference specifically to demonstrate it to the head of state. In turn, Aleksandr Lukashenko instructed to hand over the sample to the government and start manufacturing respirators within one week.
“Everywhere we boast that we are an IT country while we cannot make these paltry ‘muzzles’. I want the government to decide within one week where we are going to make them. Buying a machine tool is not a problem,” Aleksandr Lukashenko stated. “It is not good that none are made in Belarus. We could always use them.”
