Belarus plans to start selling poultry into China in early 2018

MINSK, 18 December (BelTA) – Belarus intends to supply the first batches of poultry meat to China in 2018, Belarusian Agriculture and Food Minister Leonid Zayats said in an interview with the Belarus 1 TV channel when commenting on his visit to the country, BelTA has learned.

“We reached an agreement to supply poultry to China. The first batches will be delivered to Hong Kong in January 2018. China will open its market for five leading Belarusian poultry companies in H1 2018,” the minister remarked. He specified that this applies not only to frozen poultry but also to dressed poultry, in other words, higher value-added products.

During the visit to China, major Belarusian companies sealed deals worth a total of $114 million to deliver agricultural products to the country in 2018. Veles-Meat and Mogilev Meat Packing Plant obtained a permit to export beef to China. Belarus is the 13th country in the world and the first in the CIS to tap into China’s market with its own beef.

“We got the right to export beef when we signed the document, which means that we can start delivering beef even today. The first 26 tonnes will be supplied by Veles-Meat and Mogilev Meat Packing Plant. Next year, we plan to sell thousands of tonnes, and these two companies will not be the only exporters. We will keep working on the accreditation of other meat packing plants,” the minister clarified.
