Belarus, Pakistan to strengthen cooperation in customs matters

MINSK, 14 June (BelTA) – The Council of the Republic ratified the agreement between the governments of Belarus and Pakistan on cooperation and mutual assistance in customs matters on 14 June, BelTA has learned.

Sergei Poluden, Deputy Chairman of the Belarusian State Customs Committee, presented the document and noted that it was signed on 10 November 2015. The agreement establishes major guidelines for the cooperation and mutual assistance between the customs authorities of the two countries. It also outlines the procedure for requesting information necessary for detection, investigation, and prosecution of customs offences.

Sergei Poluden believes the document will help better address the tasks set before the custom authorities, which include combating smuggling and enhancing the application of customs duties, calculation and collection of customs payments.

Members of the Council of the Republic also ratified the agreement between the governments of Belarus and Ecuador on the avoidance of double taxation and the prevention of fiscal evasion with respect to taxes on income and property.

Another document they ratified was the executive protocol to the agreement on cooperation between the countries of the CIS in the repatriation of people under age of 7 October 2002. The protocol was signed in Dushanbe in October 2015. It aims to settle issues regarding the reimbursement of repatriation costs.
