Belarus, Pakistan stress importance of cooperation in agriculture

MINSK, 10 April (BelTA) – The importance of cooperation in the agricultural sector was emphasized at the meeting between Chairman of Belarus’ House of Representatives Vladimir Andreichenko and Speaker of the National Assembly of the Pakistani parliament Sardar Ayaz Sadiq held as part of the visit of a Belarusian delegation to Pakistan, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian parliament.

“The parties showed interest in strengthening the cooperation in the agricultural sector. In this context, they stressed the importance of the first Belarus-Pakistan agricultural forum to be held in Islamabad on 11 April,” the press service said.

Sardar Ayaz Sadiq pointed out that the Pakistani side attaches great importance to the visit of the Belarusian delegation. The meeting discussed a wide range of items on the bilateral agenda related to the strengthening of the trade and economic relations and the development of the business ties bearing in mind the agreement of Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko and Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to raise the bilateral trade to $1 billion by 2020.

“The fact that Vladimir Andreichenko will meet with Pakistan President Mamnoon Hussain attests to the country’s eagerness to intensify the bilateral relations with Belarus, including in the field of trade and economy,” the press service said.

Vladimir Andreichenko and Sardar Ayaz Sadiq expressed understanding that the development of all-round cooperation is impossible without maintaining an effective interparliamentary dialogue. In this context, the parties signed a joint statement and a memorandum of mutual understanding and cooperation between the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus and the Pakistani National Assembly.

The Belarusian delegation will be in Pakistan until 12 April.
