MINSK, 27 July (BelTA) - Belarus and Pakistan plan to sign a roadmap to increase trade in 2023-2025, BelTA learned from the press service of the Energy Ministry of Belarus.

The main areas of bilateral cooperation and the terms for its further expansion were discussed during a web-based working meeting between Belarusian Deputy Energy Minister Denis Moroz and Dr. Kazim Niaz, Federal Secretary for the Ministry of Economic Affairs of Pakistan.

The talks were held in furtherance of the decisions taken by the joint Belarusian-Pakistani commission on trade and economic cooperation in Minsk in January 2023. The Belarusian part of the commission is headed by the energy minister.

Denis Moroz noted that the work carried out by the countries to intensify cooperation is yielding results. In January-May 2023, mutual trade increased by 30%, with Belarusian export to Pakistan up by 1.5 times year-on-year. Belarusian major exports are industrial products, including tractors, potash fertilizers, and food products. Work is underway to promote Belarusian rock haulers and farm machines, electric vehicles to the Pakistani market. In turn, Pakistan supplies light industry and agricultural goods to Belarus.

"The bilateral cooperation has good prospects and the countries need to tap new areas of cooperation," Denis Moroz added. “For example, Belarus is ready to offer Pakistan mutually beneficial projects in pharmaceuticals, petrochemistry, and steel production. In addition, there are opportunities to expand humanitarian and interregional ties."

For his, Kazim Niaz stressed that Pakistan is interested in studying the experience and capabilities of Belarus in medicine and biotechnology, agricultural industry, geological exploration, and the IT industry.
