Belarus, Pakistan mull over joint food processing projects

MINSK, 24 February (BelTA) – Belarus and Pakistan are discussing the possibility of setting up joint food processing ventures, Head of the Foreign Economic Activity Department of the Agriculture and Food Ministry Aleksei Bogdanov told the media after he attended the meeting of the Belarusian-Pakistani working group on cooperation in agriculture, BelTA has learned.

“The two countries are talking over joint companies to process Belarusian raw material (milk powder, poultry) in Pakistan with the use of Belarusian technologies. For instance, we are discussing the transfer of Belarusian technologies in the production of whole-milk products and ice cream from the Belarusian full cream milk powder, skimmed milk and butter. We are searching for a partner in Pakistan to implement the project,” Aleksei Bogdanov explained.

Aleksei Bogdanov stressed that cooperation should be mutually beneficial. “Pakistan is interested in possible supplies of fruit to the Belarusian market. We are also discussing variants of training their specialists at our agricultural universities. I am talking about both students and farmers,” noted Aleksei Bogdanov. He said that Belarus has specially-developed two- and three-week curricula in English for retraining and enhancing the qualifications of the personnel in the agrarian sector.

The Belarusian-Pakistani working group on agriculture will next meet in Pakistan in March 2018.
