Belarus, Pakistan eager to cooperate in light industry

ISLAMABAD, 25 May (BelTA) – Belarus and Pakistan are mutually interested in developing cooperation in the light industry, Chairman of Bellegprom Concern Nikolai Yefimchik told journalists on 25 May, BelTA has learned.

He pointed out that for Belarus Pakistan’s large market and its light industry achievements are of great interest. For its part, Pakistan is interested in fabrics manufactured by Belarusian enterprises, in particular, in polyviscose. “This type of fabrics is new for them but they are eager to work with it,” Nikolai Yefimchik said.

“We want to set up a joint enterprise to manufacture goods from Belarusian flax and Pakistani cotton,” he noted. In his words, mutual provision of services is the best form of cooperation. In particular, Nikolai Yefimchik spoke about buying relatively cheap raw materials from Pakistan and processing them in Belarus. The countries already worked in this area. However, the volume of cooperation did not exceed $0.5 million.

Belarus is also interested in cooperating with Pakistan in leather industry as Pakistan produces high-quality leather used in the footwear and furniture industries.

“We have some areas of mutual interest and are eager to cooperate,” Nikolai Yefimchik said.
