MINSK, 29 March (BelTA) – Belarus and Pakistan are discussing the ways to step up cooperation in the textile industry, Deputy Chairman of the Belarusian light industry concern Bellegprom Alexander Yakovchits told BelTA before the opening of the first Belarus-Pakistan forum of light industry manufacturers.
“We are determined and eager to discuss cooperation-related projects. We intend to study the experience of Pakistani textile manufacturers and apply it in our textile industry. We will talk about this during both the forum and the BelTEXlegprom expo,” Alexander Yakovchits said.
Alexander Yakovchits also noted that a representative business delegation from Pakistan comprising managers of 30 enterprises came to attend the forum.
“Pakistan is a major player in the global textile market. This is why the forum is very important for us. The Pakistani manufacturers process all the cotton produced in their country. Their experience, technologies, knowledge and innovation look very promising for us. This forum is a good place for negotiations with the Belarusian manufacturers, in particular the Bellegprom enterprises," Alexander Yakovchits said.
Speaking about the Belarusian exports to Pakistan, Alexander Yakovchits remarked that in 2016 Belarus sold around $300,000 worth of bulk yarn. “In 2016 the Belarusian textile company Polesye signed a contract to supply 540 tonnes of yarn worth $2 million a year to the Pakistani partners,” Alexander Yakovchits said.
