MINSK, 21 September (BelTA) – Belarus is the CIS leader in terms of development of information and communication technologies. Belarusian First Deputy Communications and Informatization Minister Pavel Tkach mentioned it at the 45th session of the Telecommunications and Infocommunication Operators Board of the Regional Commonwealth in the Field of Communications (RCC) in Minsk, BelTA has learned.

Pavel Tkach remarked that the work of the board has increased considerably this year. “All the matters are important but I would like to single out preparations for the International Telecommunication Union’s World Conference on International Telecommunications 2025, the sharing of the best practices in the development of digital economy of the RCC member states, and fight against scams. One of the most widespread types of scamming is phishing. Threat actors use fake websites to steal personal information, bank card details, and money. We share experience and take all the necessary measures in order to fight it,” the official said.

According to Pavel Tkach, participants of the session of the RCC Telecommunications and Infocommunication Operators Board will share experience of construction of telecommunication network infrastructure, including the creation of new digital services based on it. “A unified policy, a coordinated technical and technological policy is being worked out within the framework of the Regional Commonwealth. There is always technical interlinking between countries of the Commonwealth. According to the latest estimates, we were the CIS leaders from the point of view of development of information and communication technologies. We have something to share. This is why I think it will be interesting for the colleagues. We intend to advance even more actively and occupy higher positions,” Pavel Tkach stressed.

These events are always rather effective, the official added. “By sharing the best practices within the framework of the Commonwealth of Independent States, we can determine the avenues, along which we will develop in the future. Belarus is famed for its infrastructure, for fiber optic communication lines. We are Europe’s leader in terms of fiber optic penetration of households. How effectively we can use it is another matter. People want digital services. This is why traffic grows exponentially. According to our estimates, over the last year the population increased traffic consumption by 20% in comparison with the previous year. It is obvious that the trend determines new requirements for infrastructure and for building the infrastructure,” he said.

The Regional Commonwealth in the Field of Communications (RCC) is an international organization, which acts as a CIS interstate coordinating body in the area of telecommunication and postal communication. Work of the RCC Telecommunications and Infocommunication Operators Board is primarily aimed at comprehensive cooperation, coordinated development of communication systems and solutions of the CIS countries, at introducing new services and technologies, improving the effectiveness of quality management of telecommunication services, and other things.
