Belarus mulls over butter exports to Morocco

MINSK, 30 March (BelTA) – Belarus plans to launch butter supplies to Morocco, Aleksei Bogdanov, the head of the main department for foreign economic affairs at the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry, told BelTA.

“We are busy with diversifying our food supplies, developing new markets. Before the end of H1 we plan to launch butter exports to Morocco, a major butter buyer on the African continent,” said Aleksei Bogdanov. In the future, Belarus will be considering the supplies of other food products to that market.

According to the head of the main department for foreign economic affairs, Belarus is also in talks with Algeria. “We would like to enter the Algerian market with skimmed milk powder. The negotiations are underway and there is support from the Algerian minister of foreign affairs,” he said.

Belarus plans to increase its agricultural exports by 7.1% in 2018. “This year, the enterprises of the Agriculture and Food Ministry will focus on expanding the range of products and increasing the exports to the markets we mastered in the previous years. We sold our products to 70 countries in 2017. We also developed 18 new markets,” said Aleksei Bogdanov.

Belarus plans to increase supplies of its food products to the People's Republic of China. “During the visit of the Belarusian delegation to China led by Agriculture and Food Minister Leonid Zayats in late December 2017, the parties signed more than $100 million worth of contracts,” the representative of the Agriculture and Food Ministry said.
