Belarus, Moldova to implement joint project in winemaking

MINSK, 23 September (BelTA) - Belarus and Moldova are set to implement a joint project in winemaking, Sergiu Harea, president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Moldova, said during an online meeting "Belarus - Moldova: New stages of economic cooperation”, BelTA has learned.

"Our countries cooperate in different sectors. Winemaking is one of them. We will help companies from Moldova and Belarus in this sector. We are planning deliveries to third markets with the help of Italy and Spain, European chamber. This project is an opportunity to support our entrepreneurs," Sergiu Harea said.

Chairman of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Vladimir Ulakhovich noted that as part the project Belarus will study the experience of winemaking in Moldova and develop a domestic winemaking industry. "It may sound unusual, but it's relevant and important," he added.

According to Sergiu Harea, Moldova’s exports to Belarus include grape wines, ethanol with the concentration of less than 80%, maize, vegetables, fruit, nuts, preserves, furniture and fittings, fresh and dried grapes, medicines and medical products, synthetic yarn, plaster, anhydride, and dry mixes. Belarus’ exports to Moldova include tractors and vehicles for more than ten passengers, glass and glass fiber, sawn and split wood, petroleum coke and bitumen, petroleum oils or oils obtained from bituminous minerals, and potatoes. In January-July 2020, Belarus increased its export to Moldova year-on-year.

The agenda of the online meeting also included the bilateral trade and economic cooperation in the context of modern challenges, new formats of work and business support mechanisms, successful joint business projects, and prospects for advancing cooperation between the business circles of the two countries in the agricultural and food sectors, mechanical engineering, and information technology.
