Belarus might ship subway cars to Georgia

MINSK, 23 August (BelTA) – Belarus is mulling over the export of buses, electric buses and subway cars to Georgia, Belarus’ Premier Sergei Rumas told reporters after he met with Georgian Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze on 23 August, BelTA has learned.

“One of the promising avenues of cooperation is to increase supplies of Belarusian passenger vehicles to Georgia. We shipped quite a number of Stadler trains assembled in Belarus for Georgian Railways in 2016-2017. We are considering the export of buses, electric buses and subway cars to Georgia. We count on the support of the Georgian government in this matter,” Sergei Rumas said.

At the meeting on 23 August the parties agreed to build cooperation in the manufacturing industry and agriculture. The first steps have already been made: a factory to assemble Belarusian elevators was commissioned in Tbilisi; a facility to assemble Belarus small tractors got off the ground in Batumi. Packaging of Belarusian drugs was launched in Georgia. An agreement was reached to start packaging Georgian tea in Belarus.

The first Georgian Trading House will open in Belarus on 24 August. It will have a great assortment of Georgian products on offer. “I hope that this is just the beginning and that more Georgian stores will open in Belarus in the future,” Sergei Rumas said.

The two countries actively cooperate in the agricultural industry. In 2018 the first consignment of 30 Gomselmash grain harvesters was delivered to Georgian farmers. Tests of Belarusian potato harvesters were completed on the Georgian soil.

Belarus and Georgia are running projects in education and healthcare. Belarusian specialists helped Georgia launch its liver transplant surgery program. 

The Belarusian head of government expressed hope that the list of joint projects will be expanded.
