MINSK, 30 December (BelTA) – Belarus may start selling beef to China in Q1 2017, BelTA learned from Belarusian Agriculture and Food Minister Leonid Zayats on 30 December.
The official noted that four Belarusian meat-processing companies have been reviewed and certified by Chinese experts. Another nine are willing to go through the same procedure. The Chinese side spoke in glowing terms about industrial standards of the Belarusian companies, product quality control, and raw materials. “It inspires optimism that our enterprises will be able to sell their products on the Chinese market in Q1 2017,” said the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Minister.
Leonid Zayats described the Chinese market as promising for Belarusian processing companies. As many as 34 dairy companies have been certified to sell their merchandise to China and another six are willing to go through the procedure. In 2016 enterprises run by the Agriculture and Food Ministry exported a total of about $7.5 million worth of merchandise to China.
There are plans to start exporting poultry meat to China. “Belarusian poultry companies are considering the possibility of entering the Chinese market. The products were showcased during an expo in Shanghai and met certain interest on the part of Chinese consumers,” added the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Minister.
