Belarus may set uniform retail prices for some alcoholic beverages

MINSK, 22 October (BelTA) - A proposal to set uniform retail prices for some types of alcoholic beverages was discussed at the government conference chaired by the Belarusian president to review the development of the alcoholic beverage industry, Vice Premier Mikhail Rusy told the media, BelTA has learned.

“We made the proposal to strengthen state regulation of the most common types of alcoholic beverages (following in footsteps of a number of other countries). We suggested setting a minimum entry price, a uniform trade markup and, therefore, a uniform price in retail. These proposals will be carefully scrutinized. The producers of premium-class, exclusive, or souvenir products will face no restrictions. They will work at bargain prices,” said the vice premier.

According to Mikhail Rusy, the matter concerns mass-produced types of vodka to be sold in stores at the uniform price based on one trading markup.

“The government has already passed a decision on the uniform trade markup,” he added.
