MINSK, 12 July (BelTA) – The first container train of the new international project Containerships Train connecting Lithuania, Belarus, and Ukraine has reached the Ukrainian station of Brovary, the press service of Belarusian Railways told BelTA.

The train bearing 65 containers placed on 43 double-stack cars left the Lithuanian port Klaipeda on 9 July. It crossed Belarus in transit and reached the terminal station Brovary in Ukraine on 11 July. The time in transit was 50 hours.

The project has been implemented in line with the agreement signed by the railway administrations of Ukraine, Belarus, and Lithuania in Odessa in May 2019. The agreement is designed to encourage the use and further development of international freight transportation in containers by rail along the route Klaipeda / Draugyste - Kena - Slovechno - Brovary / Odessa.

The railway administrations intend to make sure the train travels between Lithuania and Ukraine at least twice per week in line with the schedule approved by the signatories. Plans have been made to extend the train service not only to Brovary but also to the port of Odessa.

Other parties are free to accede to the agreement.
