VITEBSK, 23 December (BelTA) -  Lepel District of Belarus has long established cooperation with Russian regions in various areas, and thanks to the recent agreements made by the presidents of the two countries there are plans to strengthen mutual contacts, BelTA learned from Deputy Chairwoman of the Lepel District Executive Committee Oksana Tereshkova.

Sanctions pressure from the collective West on Belarus, affects the work of sectors of the economy of the whole country and its individual regions. Enterprises that used to supply their products to the European Union were forced to quickly redirect to other markets and look for new customers and partners. “We have long-established good neighborly relations with the regions of Russia. This year we have seen how reliable a partner this country is. Our exports to Russia amounted to about $2.8 million and have grown by 16% since the beginning of the year. There are already examples of companies that have successfully established themselves in the Russian market. The TsSK company located in our district is planning to increase the export of manufactured products to the Russian Federation with the launch of a new building materials production facility at its designed capacity. Five new lines for the production of metal profiles, a metal slitting line, two lines for the production of profiles for the installation of cable ducts are to be installed here. This will help the company compete in the Russian market and find new consumers. Thanks to the agreements on cooperation between Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko and Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Union State programs to be implemented in our country, we expect to strengthen cooperation with Russian regions, find new contacts and, possibly, take a free niche in the Russian market. Both we and our neighbors will benefit from it,” said Oksana Tereshkova.

Lepel Dairy and Canning Plant, one of the main enterprises of the district, is also focused mainly on the Russian market which accounts for 62% of the company’s exports. There is a high demand for whole and skimmed milk and butter from Lepel producers among the residents of the Russian Federation. “Changing markets for the district’s goods and services went in different areas. Berezinsky biosphere reserve and Lepel forestry redirected their export flows from the markets of unfriendly countries to the eastern direction, including the Russian Federation. Recreation in the health resorts of our region is popular with Russians. Export of health services has increased by more than 25% year-on-year. Guests from Russia are also attracted by the nature of Lepel District, they often come to the farmsteads for holidays and their vacations,” the deputy chairperson of the district executive committee added.
