Belarus-Karelia trade up 13% in January-September 2022

MINSK, 7 December (BelTA) - The trade between Belarus and Karelia went up by almost 13% in January-September 2022 year-on-year, Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of Karelia for Economic Affairs Dmitry Rodionov said ahead of the business forum “Belarus-Karelia: business cooperation, effective partnership” on 7 December, BelTA has learned.
Dmitry Rodionov praised interaction between Karelia and Belarus. “The trade has been growing over the past several years. We can already assess the results of the nine months of 2022. In January-September 2022 the trade increased by almost 13% compared to the same period last year. These are good figures, but we are not quite satisfied with the result. We would like the trade to grow much higher,” he added.
A delegation from Karelia, consisting of over 30 specialists, is on a visit to Belarus. These are representatives of the industry, culture, sports, timber sector, economic activities, woodworking and other areas.
Apart from the business forum, the guests are also set to visit some enterprises in Minsk and present their products to Belarusian companies. “The Chamber of Commerce and Industry is hosting a display of the potential of Karelian manufacturers. We also hope that as a result of the business forum the enterprises of Karelia will be able to find partners from Belarus to sell their products. I think that in the course of the presentation of investment potential of our country we will also interest Belarusian business to implement their projects in our country,” Dmitry Rodionov said.
He cited the example of the Amkodor-Onego company as one of the implemented Belarusian projects in Karelia. “In 2019, Amkodor acquired a property complex in Petrozavodsk, and today we already have the Amkodor-Onego company, which produces heavy logging machinery. This once again proves that our cooperation is effective and meetings bring results,” he stressed.
The representative of Karelia noted the importance of work in import substitution. “With joint efforts we have to find products and technological solutions, which will help us be fully free from imports. In this part, the Amkodor-Onego project is important not only for Karelia, but also for the entire Russian Federation. We hope that it will become an anchor in the interaction between our countries,” said Dmitry Rodionov.
The delegation of Karelia is set to visit Minsk Automobile Plant (MAZ trademark) and the Hi Tech Park. “We have plans to implement the same park in Petrozavodsk, and we want to adopt the positive experience of our partners from Belarus. At MAZ we are interested in loading equipment, haulers for our mining industry. We will also visit a number of other enterprises,” Dmitry Rodionov added.
As part of the business forum “Belarus-Karelia: business cooperation, effective partnership” Belarusian participants got an opportunity to hold bilatreal talks with representatives of Russian companies in stone processing, production of animal feed, heavy industry, pulp and paper industry, as well as the production of sports equipment.
