MINSK, 23 March (BelTA) – Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Japan Ruslan Yesin met with Keiichi Hamanaka, Mayor of the city of Ome in Tokyo Metropolis, on 23 March, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Embassy in Japan.
“Ambassador Ruslan Yesin briefed Keiichi Hamanaka about the development of the bilateral interregional cooperation and promising economic and humanitarian projects. The parties agreed to establish cooperation in mass sport, especially in canoeing. The parties also discussed possible participation of Belarusian athletes in the famous Ome Marathon that has been held annually since 1967,” the embassy said.
The Japanese party backed the proposal to hold talks over setting up a Belarusian trading center in the city of Ome. “This economic project is aimed at creating a platform that would tell Japanese business about Belarusian exporters and their offers,” the embassy explained.
On 23 March, Ambassador Ruslan Yesin also met with the vice president of Ome Shinkin Bank about to talk about Belarus-Japan cooperation in the financial sector.
The ambassador also met with Director of the Japanese company NBR Shogo Furusawa and President of the Hotman company Sakamoto Masayuki to discuss prospects of their cooperation with Belarusian light industry enterprises.
According to the Belarusian Embassy in Japan, Belarus’ main exports to Japan are potash fertilizers. Other exports include textile, dairy, and woodworking products, appliances, and measuring equipment. In 2020, the countries set up the Belarusian-Japanese Business Club that brings together representatives of Japanese business who cooperate or want to cooperate with Belarus.
