Belarus invites Lithuania to bolster ties in agriculture, transport

MINSK, 9 June (BelTA) - Belarus invites Lithuania to intensify cooperation in the field of agriculture and transport. This theme is in the center of attention of the 11th Belarusian-Lithuanian Economic Forum in Marijampole (Lithuania), BelTA has learned.

Belarus’ First Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications Yevgeny Rogachev noted that Belarus and Lithuania maintain active cooperation in the transport industry, but this interaction needs to be constantly improved. In particular, this applies to the tariff policy, establishment of water passenger transport between Grodno and Lithuania and expansion of the geography of flights. Yevgeny Rogachev drew attention to the fact that the air service is only between the capitals of the two states. "Why only Minsk and Vilnius? We have regional centers. So we have something to work on,” he said.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Igor Brylo emphasized that Belarus ensures its own food security and exports food products to more than 60 countries, including Lithuania. "I think that we will find new points of contact to boost our mutually beneficial cooperation," he said. In addition, cooperation was established between the Belarusian and Lithuanian veterinary services. The two countries provide support to each other when carrying out epizootic measures.

The 11th Belarusian-Lithuanian Economic Forum is held in the city of Marijampole (Lithuania) on 8-10 June. The forum discusses the trade, economic and investment cooperation between Belarus and Lithuania, including cooperation in the field of transport, transit and logistics, financial markets and banking, agriculture and food industry.

The forum was organized by the Belarusian Economy Ministry, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Embassy of Belarus in Lithuania, relevant government bodies jointly with the Lithuanian Confederation of Industrialists, Lithuanian Business Council for Economic and Commercial Cooperation with Belarus, business associations, and the Embassy of Lithuania in Belarus.
