YUZHNO-SAKHALINSK, 4 September (BelTA) – Sakhalin Oblast Governor Oleg Kozhemyako has invited Belarus to set up a joint cellulose company in the region. The news was announced at the meeting with the Belarusian and federal Russian mass media in Youzhny-Sakhalinsk, BelTA has learned.
The governor stated that Belarus produces modern logging equipment. This equipment can be used as a basis for the joint venture. “The project is promising and we will be working together with our Belarusian counterparts on setting up a cellulose company here. The company may produce wrapping paper, packets, disposable tableware. This would allow us making the island an eco-friendly place. We are deeply interested in the area,” said the governor.
The meeting of the Belarusian and Russian journalists with Sakhalin Oblast Governor Oleg Kozhemyako took place as part of a press tour to the region organized by the Union State Permanent Committee and the international information agency Russia Today.
