Belarus' HTP export exceeds $2.5bn in 2020

MINSK, 5 February (BelTA) – The export of Belarus' Hi-Tech Park exceeded $2.5 billion in 2020 to account for more than 20% of Belarus’ export of services, Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko said at the Digital Almaty Forum 2021 on 5 February, BelTA has learned.

“Belarus boasts the largest IT cluster in Eastern Europe - the Hi-Tech Park. In 2020, its export exceeded $2.5 billion, which is more than 20% of the total export of services of Belarus,” said Roman Golovchenko.

According to the prime minister, Belarus has developed a sufficient infrastructure for digital transformation. The number of wireless broadband Internet users exceeded 95 units per 100 people in the country. Fiber-optic communication lines connected all settlements with the number of households of 100 and more. “We have the leading position in Europe in terms of fiber-optic-equipped buildings,” he said.

The fourth generation (4G) mobile communication services in Belarus cover the territory inhabited by almost 90% of the country's population.
 
“The result of this work is 32nd place in the rating of the International Telecommunication Union on the development of information and communication technologies. Belarus is doing the best among the CIS countries,” Roman Golovchenko said.

The Belarusian head of government believes that the process of integration of digital technologies in all aspects of business today is a key condition for progress. “New technologies are changing the structure of the world economy. On the one hand, this requires radical changes in technology, culture and principles of developing new services. On the other hand, it expands the window of opportunity to reach new frontiers. For Belarus, the priority of digital transformation is defined both on the internal and external contours of the state policy,” he said.
