Belarus harvests over 5.5m tonnes of grain

MINSK, 12 August (BelTA) - Belarusian farmers have so far harvested more than 5.5 million tonnes of grain, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry.

As of 12 August, grain and leguminous plants (except for corn, buckwheat and millet) were cropped from over 1.7 million hectares, which is 79.8% of the total cropping area. The average yield is 32 centners per hectare (vs 27 centners per hectare in 2018)

Brest Oblast remains ahead of other regions with its harvest 98.7% complete. The region harvested over 1.183 million tonnes of grain. Grodno Oblast cropped 91.6% of its areas (more than 1.124 million tonnes of grain). Minsk Oblast harvested 81.9% of its areas, producing more than 1.413 million tonnes of grain.

Harvest in Gomel Oblast is 76.8% complete (569,000 tonnes). Mogilev Oblast  harvested 74.4% of its areas or 609,800 tonnes.

Vitebsk Oblast cut 55.6% of its areas to produce 617,800 tonnes of grain.

The procurement order on grain this year is 815,000 tonnes. The order is 76.1% (620,000 tonnes) complete by 12 August.
