MINSK, 15 December (BelTA) – In January-September 2023 Belarus' gross external state debt went down by $3.1 billion to total $36.7 billion as of 1 October 2023, BelTA learned from the Belarusian National Bank.
External obligations decreased in all sectors of the economy.
In relation to GDP, the external debt decreased from 54.4% as of 1 January 2023 to 49.6% as of 1 October, which is the minimum since 2011. External debt per capita went down from $4,300 to under $4,100,.
Net external debt position, which equals gross external debt less external assets in the form of debt instruments, decreased from 18.2% to 13.9% of GDP in January-September.
The bulk of Belarus' external debt is still represented by long-term borrowings (72.3%), which suggests low risks in external debt financing.
