MINSK, 14 June (BelTA) – In Q1 2024 Belarus' gross external debt went down by $0.5 billion to total $36.4 billion as of 1 April 2024, BelTA learned from the Belarusian National Bank.

In relation to GDP, the external debt decreased from 51.4% as of 1 January 2024 to 51.1% as of 1 April 2024. External debt per capita dropped from $4,030 to $3,970.

The bulk of Belarus' external debt is still represented by long-term borrowings (71.7%), which suggests low risks in the field of external lending.

Net external debt position, which equals gross external debt less external assets in the form of debt instruments, decreased from 13.5% to 13% of GDP in Q1 2024.
