GRODNO, 6 February (BelTA) – Grodno Oblast of Belarus and Samarkand Oblast of Uzbekistan seek to develop closer cooperation. The statement was made at the meeting of the heads of the regions Vladimir Karanik and Erkinjon Turdimov, BelTA learned from the Grodno Oblast Executive Committee.
The meeting took place in Samarkand as part of the 2nd Forum of Regions of Uzbekistan and Belarus. The heads of the regions discussed prospects for increasing trade. The Grodno Oblast governor emphasized that the potential for interaction between the regions was on the rise.
According to the oblast executive committee, Uzbekistan ranks third in Grodno Oblast’s trade with the CIS countries and fourth in the oblast’s trade across the globe.
Grodno Oblast supplies Uzbekistan with food products (cattle meat, cheese, milk whey, and baby food), woodworking products and petrochemicals. Uzbekistan supplies to Grodno Oblast nuts and fruits, yarn, fabrics, and textiles.
