Belarus, Georgia to set up tractor assembly plant

TBILISI, 20 March (BelTA – TASS) – Belarus is interested in setting up a joint Belarus-Georgia tractor assembly plant in Georgia. In turn, Georgia would like to open a store in Belarus to sell its agricultural products, the press service of the Georgian prime minister informed following a meeting between Georgia’s Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze and Belarus’ Deputy Prime Minister Mikhail Rusy, BelTA has learned.

The press service noted that Mamuka Bakhtadze and Mikhail Rusy discussed the possibility of setting up a joint venture to produce elevators. The parties also reviewed the cooperation in transport, in particular, the development of a ferry connection and transit of Belarusian goods to Georgia through Ukraine.

The Georgian prime minister instructed relevant Georgian authorities to join efforts with their Belarusian counterparts and reconcile logistics issues within two months.

Mikhail Rusy said that Belarus is ready to participate in the tender to replace city buses in Tbilisi and Batumi, and to export Belarusian elevators to Georgia.

Mikhail Rusy is taking part in the Made in Belarus exhibition which kicked off in the Expo Georgia hall in Tbilisi on 20 March and will run till 23 March. The exhibition features around 150 large Belarusian companies operating in various industries, from food industry to mechanical engineering. They will present their technological inventions and the most innovative and promising projects: from new materials and biotechnologies to innovative techniques of potato growing and coffee roasting.

The exhibition features such flagships of the Belarusian economy as Minsk Tractor Plant, Gomselmash, Mogilev Strommashina Plant, Mogilev Metallurgical Works, Kommunarka confectionery, Krinitsa brewery, Minsk Kristall distillery, and others.
