MINSK, 17 July (BelTA) - Belarus fulfills its obligations in counteracting the import of embargoed products to Russia, Chairman of the State Customs Committee of Belarus Yuri Senko said in an interview to the Belarus 1 TV Channel, BelTA informs.
When asked about another flaring-up of the topic in the Russian media and criticism of Belarus, the head of the committee noted: "It seems to me that this has already become some bad tradition to blame someone, especially on the transit route and say that it is probably the Republic of Belarus. Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan are under the same fire,” he said.
“We fulfill our obligations to Russia in full, the ones in part of counteracting the transit of embargoed products through Belarus. If their destination is Russia, we do not allow them into the country,” said Yury Senko.
There are also cases when certain goods from the Russian list of banned products are imported under the guise of products intended for consumption in Belarus, although being intended for further transit. “We know certain schemes and mechanisms used to import them and keep such products under control. For the period of sanctions, the customs service of Belarus initiated 30 criminal cases, held 4,700 various events in the area,” Yuri Senko said.
“As a rule, Russian transport and Russian carriers are used in such cases, with Russian business staying behind them. The head of state set a task to continue this work and explain the steps we are taking. This is not our business, not our violations,” Yury Senko added.
