MINSK, 4 May (BelTA) - Food security in Belarus has improved significantly over the past decades. This is evidenced by the research of the Economic Research Institute of the Belarusian Economy Ministry, BelTA learned from the press service of the Economy Ministry.

Over the past three decades, Belarus has significantly increased production of agricultural products, the ministry said. “The number of livestock and poultry has increased 1.7 times, milk production has gone up 1.5 times, the amount of cereals and leguminous crops has risen 1.6 times,” the ministry provided the research data.

Performance figures in the sector are also improving: the average milk yield increased by 1.9 times, pigs' weight gain improved by 1.7 times, the yield of sugar beet went up by 1.8 times, that of vegetables and potatoes - by 1.6 times and 1.4 times respectively.

As a result, Belarusians have a large reserve of food stapples.
