Belarus’ FM completes visit to Hungary

MINSK, 13 April (BelTA) - Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Aleinik paid a visit to Hungary on 11-12 April to participate in the 11th meeting of the intergovernmental Belarusian-Hungarian commission for economic cooperation. On Hungary’s behalf the commission is co-chaired by Minister of Foreign Affairs Peter Szijjarto, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The meeting focused on the urgent issues of practical cooperation in economy and investment. The main emphasis was placed on the prospects of cooperation in agriculture, industry, energy and water management. The parties also discussed issues of scientific research and education.

Co-chairpersons of the commission Sergei Aleinik and Peter Szijjarto emphasized the need to find ways for the full realization of Belarusian-Hungarian cooperation. The ministers confirmed the readiness to continue work on the development of economic relations, including in the most advanced and technological areas. They also emphasized the mutual interest in a pragmatic and open dialogue, in building strong ties at the industry and expert levels.

The participants of the commission analyzed specific economic and investment projects and outlined the ways to implement them. At the end of the meeting the parties signed a protocol to define the areas of interaction for the next year. They also concluded a memorandum on cooperation in nuclear power.

In the course of the bilateral talks the foreign ministers of Belarus and Hungary discussed a wide range of issues on the bilateral agenda with an emphasis on trade and economic cooperation. The ministers agreed on the priority areas to boost bilateral relations in the near future. They also coordinated measures within the 2023 ministerial cooperation program signed earlier in Minsk. They discussed the situation in the global arena, and also in the European and Eurasian regions.

Together with his Hungarian counterpart Sergei Aleinik took part in the opening of a business forum held as part of the intergovernmental commission meeting. The forum featured over 70 enterprises from various sectors of the economy and business structures from Belarus and Hungary.

As part of his visit the Belarusian minister of foreign affairs met with Hungarian Minister of Agriculture Istvan Nagy. The parties discussed cooperation in the agricultural sector and emphasized the importance of establishing a working group on agriculture.

The Belarusian delegation visited the sales and maintenance center of OAO Belarus Tractor in Hort and met with the management and employees of the company to discuss prospects of further activities. The Belarusian minister also held negotiations with the management of a number of large Hungarian companies.
