MINSK, 16 September (BelTA) – Belarus and Finland have plans to develop cooperation in the energy sector. The matter was discussed at a meeting with a delegation of Finnish businessmen headed by Christer Michelsson, Ambassador of Finland to Lithuania with concurrent accreditation to Belarus, hosted by the Belarusian Energy Ministry on 15 September, BelTA learned from the press service of the ministry.
On behalf of Belarus, attending the meeting were representatives of the Energy Ministry, and the companies Belenergo and Beltopgaz. The Finnish side was represented by the companies Valmet Technologies, HansHeat Oy, Fortum, Biofire Oy and others.
The meeting discussed opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation in power engineering and outlined promising areas for strengthening bilateral ties. The Finnish businessmen were briefed on the status and prospects of the Belarusian power industry in the context of the construction of the Belarusian nuclear power plant.
“The parties agreed to exchange information about the power engineering projects that are underway in Belarus and Finland and to explore other opportunities for cooperation in the industrial and investment sectors. After the meeting, the Finnish partners were provided with information materials about the organizations subordinate to the Belarusian Energy Ministry and about investment projects that are being implemented in the country’s energy sector,” the press service said.
