Belarus expects Union State to outpace EAEU in creating common energy markets

Belarus expects Union State to outpace EAEU in creating common energy markets

MOSCOW, 26 January (BelTA) – Belarus expects common energy markets to be established in the Belarus-Russia Union State sooner than in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), Belarus’ Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko told a BelTA reporter following his meeting with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin in Moscow on 26 January, BelTA has learned.

“The issue of common markets [of energy resources] is quite difficult because it involves tariffs and subsidies," Roman Golovchenko said. He recalled that there is an agreement to develop common energy markets within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union. “But we expect that we will move much faster on this track within the framework of the Union State," he said. “For Belarus, this does not mean any special prices. We believe that since we have decided to build a single economic space, we should aim for a level playing field for business and equal prices, most importantly, tariffs for the transportation of energy resources." This is one of the principles of equal competition and equal economic conditions, the prime minister of Belarus stressed.
