Belarus expects to start new program with IMF in January-February

MINSK, 11 January (BelTA) – Belarus hopes to start a new program with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in January-February, Belarus’ First Deputy Prime Minister Vasily Matyushevsky reported to President Alexander Lukashenko on 11 January, BelTA has learned.

“We hope to launch a new program with the IMF in the near time, in January or early February,” Vasily Matyushevsky told journalists.

He noted that an IMF mission visited Belarus not long ago. The concept of a new expanded financing program was prepared. Utility rates were the only matter that was not agreed upon. Now the work on the issue is almost complete. “There are some ideas, for example to introduce a number of compensatory measures for some categories of citizens,” Vasily Matyushevsky said.
