MINSK, 26 October (BelTA) – Belarus expects a record high grain harvest of about 11 million tonnes in 2022, Belarusian Agriculture and Food Minister Igor Brylo said during the international forum Belarus’ Dairy Industry, BelTA has learned.

"As of today, Belarusian farmers have harvested 9.8 million tonnes of grain, including rapeseed. Grain yields increased by more than 5 centners per hectare over last year. We are looking at a record high harvest for Belarus. It will approach 11 million tonnes," Igor Brylo said.

In January-September 2022, farms of all categories (agricultural organizations, farms, household farms), reported agricultural output at Br23.9 billion, which was up by 4.9%  year-on-year in comparable prices. "The increase is mainly due to crop production, which is a good thing for the livestock industry. We see prospects for stepping up the production of milk and meat of all types and, accordingly, their processing next year,” the minister said.

"In the context of growing concerns about food shortages and rising prices for agricultural products, this year’s harvest makes it possible to saturate the domestic market off-season and to export food products to foreign markets, where they are in great demand due to high quality," Igor Brylo summed up.

The international forum Belarus’ Dairy Industry is taking place in Minsk on 26-27 October. The forum highlights ways on how to strengthen Belarus’ positions in the global dairy market and earn more on milk under the sanctions, what to supply to Russian regions, how to diversify exports and imports, how to find new suppliers of equipment and packaging, and how to optimize logistics. Company heads and top managers will meet up with experts and industry officials to discuss market trends, challenges and opportunities.
