MINSK, 22 August (BelTA) – Belarus expects to double electricity export in 2019, BelTA learned from Belarus Deputy Energy Minister Mikhail Mikhadyuk.
“We constantly work to promote electricity export. The Belarusian nuclear power plant (NPP) will be part of the Belarusian power system. Electricity will be exported via the national electric company Belenergo. Thanks to systematic work to build up generating capacity of the power system and competitive prices, Belarus has managed to pass the one billion kWh milestone this year. In 2019, we expect the export to double as compared to 2018. Moreover, we have entered into negotiations with several companies who decided to start buying Belarusian electricity,” Mikhail Mikhadyuk said.
BelTA reported earlier, that in 2018 Belarus increased the export of electricity by more than seven times to one billion kWh. In 2018, for the first time in the history of the Republic of Belarus, the country stopped importing electricity and replaced imported energy with cheaper local electricity.
