Belarus, European Commission discuss simpler market access

MINSK, 13 June (BelTA) – Representatives of the European Commission’s Directorate General for Trade and the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs met in Minsk on 12 June, the ministry’s press service told BelTA.

The Belarusian delegation was led by Deputy Director of the Foreign Economic Activities Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Yuri Gorelik. The European delegation was led by Deputy Head of the Russia, CIS, Ukraine, Western Balkans, EFTA, EEA and Turkey Unit of the Directorate General for Trade Ruta Zarnauskaite. The negotiations touched upon the most sensitive issues in the bilateral trade and economic cooperation with a view to simplifying the conditions of mutual access to markets and enabling favorable conditions for the development of business contacts.

Belarusian First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrei Yeudachenka welcomed the European Commission delegation.

The organization of regular trade dialogue meetings allows the sides to discuss what exactly Belarus and the European Union expect with regard to trade and economic cooperation. The sides can also discuss the formation of the legal base the bilateral trade relations rely on. The sides can also agree on how to proceed in order to remove barriers in mutual trade.
