MINSK, 13 August (BelTA) – Belarus and the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) are working out a cooperation strategy, Dmitry Pankin, Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB), told media on 13 August, BelTA informs.
Dmitry Pankin is on a visit to Belarus on 13-14 August. During his visit the EDB head held working meetings with representatives of the Belarusian government. In his words, the meeting in the Belarusian government focused, among other things, on the choice of the further strategy for the bank’s development and implementation of projects with Belarus.
The member states of the Bank are currently discussing whether the EDB should concentrate on integration projects or take a wider look on development projects. According to Dmitry Pankin, there are different opinions on the issue. Belarus upholds the position that the EDB should take part in a wider range of projects without limiting its participation in the integration ones.
“The key issue in choosing the further strategy is whether we will decide on a big decapitalization of the bank for the bank to implement large-scale projects to improve the economy of our countries,” Dmitry Pankin said.
The Eurasian Development Bank is an international financial institution founded by Russia and Kazakhstan in January 2006 with the mission to facilitate the development of market economies, sustainable economic growth and the expansion of mutual trade and other economic ties in its member states. The member states of the Bank are Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, the Russian Federation, and Tajikistan.
